A Wellington family says they're lucky their home didn't burn down, after their e-bike battery exploded while charging

A Wellington family says they're lucky their home didn't burn down, after their e-bike battery exploded while charging

They reported hearing a loud bang come from the garage, but dismissed it as something falling over outside in the Wellington wind.

The family says they noticed the foul smell of smoke, and managed to extinguish the waist-high flames.

Fire and Emergency says people should charge e-bikes and e-scooters somewhere other than inside their homes.
