The Police Commissioner says officers last year attended more family harm and mental health incidents - than ever

The Police Commissioner says officers last year attended more family harm and mental health incidents - than ever

Andrew Coster has spoken at the annual briefing to politicians - warning pressures on the force and demand for services are immense.

He's told the Justice Select Committee it's a change for police - who traditionally operated on the streets, responding to criminal offending in public spaces.

Coster says officers' time is increasingly spent in homes - doing work that requires social intervention, rather than criminal.
