Ange Postecolgou has hit out at Tottenham's "fragile" foundations following his side's 2-0 defeat against Manchester City.
[Summary]The defeat meant that Spurs missed out on the chance to finish fourth on the Premier League ladder and play Champions League football next season.
Postecoglou was a frustrated man in his post match interviews, but in his post-match press conference revealed a glimpse of there being more on his mind than just the defeat to defending champions City.
"The past 48 hours have revealed the foundations are fairly fragile," Postecolgou said.
"I'll have to go back to the drawing board with a few things.
"[From] Outside, inside, everywhere … It's been an interesting exercise.
"It's just my observations … You can make your own assessment [on what that means].
"I've probably misread the situation as to what I think is important in our endeavour to become a winning team."
Postecoglou is in his first year in charge of Tottenham and has already achieved a higher points total than the team managed last season with a game to play.
On the pitch, two goals from leading marksman Erling Haaland moved Manchester City to the top of the Premier League ladder with one match to play and in the box seat to secure a sixth title in seven years.
Postecolgou's side were left to rue plenty of missed opportunities and will not play Champions League football next season, their defeat handing Aston Villa fourth spot.
Haaland tapped home early in the second half from a Kevin de Bruyne cross to give Manchester City a hard-earned lead at a nervy Tottenham Hotspur stadium to put City in pole position in the title race.
However, substitute goalkeeper Stefan Ortega was called upon to make a brilliant save to deny Spurs' Son Heyng-Min with five minutes remaining.
The South Korean star was one-on-one with the German keeper — only on after first choice keeper Ederson was substituted following a collision with Cristian Romero — arguably with the title on the line.
However, Ortega, who already denied Dejan Kulusevski at his near post minutes after coming on, spread himself brilliantly to deny a distraught Son and keep City in control.
"It's incredible. He's so good," Haaland said of the keeper.
"Ederson had some good ones [saves] too, let's not forget.
"But Ortega's one in the moment, I almost had a heart attack to be honest."
He was not the only one, with City manager Pep Guardiola falling to the ground in relief after seeing his keeper make the save.
"Our players were playing for the consequences of the result," Guardiola said.
He needn't have worried.
Haaland smashed home a penalty in stoppage time, earned by impressive substitute Jérémy Doku, to seal victory.
Tottenham had multiple opportunities, and even enjoyed the majority of possession, but could not find the net.
Spurs defeat means that 1982 European Champions Aston Villa will return to the Champions League for the first time in over 40 years, while Spurs need a point to be certain of playing in the Europa League.
"It was a tight game and in the big moments we weren't able to capitalise and they were," Postecoglou said.
"We had the opportunities and we had to punish them."
It also means that the Premier League title will go down to the final day of the season, with Manchester City needing to beat West Ham United to secure a fourth-straight title.
Arsenal, meanwhile, will host Everton in its final match of the season, needing to better Manchester City's result to have any chance of winning a first title in 20 years.
