Sarah Jessica Parker "genuinely nervous" about raising two daughters

The 'Sex and the City' star has admitted she's terrified of her seven-year-old twin girls Loretta and Tabitha growing up in this day and age because children can be so nasty to one another at school.

She explained: "I'm genuinely nervous about raising daughters. It's not terribly hard yet, thought I expect it will become more so just because I've seen girls not be very kind to each other. I'm hoping by the time they're older, there will be this shift and what will be fashionable will be to be kind to each other. I want them to be good to each other and their friends."

The 51-year-old actress believes her concerns stem from the fact she was quite "mean" as a child because she was desperate to fit into a certain tribe.

She said: "I'm sure I was mean, I'm sure I said things about people because I wanted to just be part of a tribe. I never liked the feeling, thought. But I think now, with mobile phones, it's different.

"I understand how you can get caught up in the meanness because you so want to be liked and you want to connect when you're young.

"It takes a lot of courage to stand up and say, 'I don't feel like that's a friendly choice.' Little girls are just trying to sort themselves out and they want to feel heard."

And Sarah and her husband Matthew Broderick - who also have 13-year-old son James together - are determined to do as much as they can to help them "figure" themselves out.

She explained: "It's hard. As much as we can do to encourage them to trust their own instincts is great and good, but they have to figure it out themselves. It's scary because you can't always be with them and you can't always remind them who their best self is."
