Jacinda Ardern will be new PM
It’s official; Winston Peters and NZ First go left with Labour.
19 October 2017
While not everyone in NZ First agreed with going with Labour, Peters said it was a strong enough consensus to go ahead.
There were cheers heard from the Labour caucus room where the Labour MPs had gathered with speculation that clapping heard earlier this evening was a signal of the decision.
Peters said the Greens had a confidence and supply agreement with Labour - outside the Government - while NZ First had the full coalition, including roles inside Cabinet.
Further comment on cabinet positions and feedback on the deal from Prime Minister Ardern and the Greens is expected later tonight.
