The Northern Mystics have emerged with a 60-54 win over rivals the Stars in Waitakere, pulling away in the closing minutes after the Stars had a player sent off.
Stars midcourter Fa'amu Ioane was dismissed for persistent infringing with just under eight minutes left and the Mystics leading 50-49.
The victory is the first for the Mystics this season from three games
