Insurance companies are digging deep after Auckland's severe storm early last month.
The total cost of claims has reached 72-million dollars, but that's only the provisional figure.
Last year's total cost of storm-related claims hit 243-million dollars - a record in itself.
This year's total is already almost 200-million dollars.
Insurance Council spokesperson Sarah Knox, says every dollar spent on adapting to climate change now, will be more than repaid in future savings.
She says the insurance industry has been lobbying central government for several years, to provide leadership and resources to adapt to climate change and extreme weather.
