Boxing Day spending has topped last years levels, but only just

Data from payment company Worldline NZ shows consumer spending through its network - excluding hospitality - reached 100.5 million dollars on Boxing Day.
That's up 2.6 percent on the same day last year and up 3.1 percent on 2019.
Consumers spending during the full six-week before Christmas has dropped to 5.21 billion dollars.
That's down 0.7 percent on the same six weeks last year and up 13.6 percent on 2019.
