The Lower Hutt Mayor says clean-up work is already underway after a severe storm yesterday

The Lower Hutt Mayor says clean-up work is already underway after a severe storm yesterday

Fire and Emergency received 51 weather-related calls for assistance across the region, with fallen trees, broken windows, and even lifted roofs in the area.

Mayor Campbell Barry says while the storm was short and sharp, its impact is significant.

He says he's aware of a small number of families who couldn't return to their damaged homes last night.
