The Breakers are locked in a tight battle with the Illawarra Hawks in their NBL clash at Spark Arena

The Breakers are locked in a tight battle with the Illawarra Hawks in their NBL clash at Spark Arena

    They trail 42-41 at halftime.

Introducing a 10-minute sin-bin for cynical fouls or showing dissent towards referees hasn't exactly got a warm reception in football circles.

The International Football Association Board has reportedly signed off on trials for "blue cards".

It's unclear at what level the move would be tested at.

The Premier League has ruled out being part of any trials, while governing body Fifa says reports of blue cards at elite levels are "incorrect and premature".

Blues winger Caleb Clarke has opted for a headstart to his 2024 season.

The 20-test All Black will start in tomorrow's Super Rugby pre-season game against the Yokohama Canon Eagles in Japan.

Clarke has slimmed down during the off-season and is keen to put his new-look frame to work.

Four-time Coast to Coast champion Simone Maier has hinted tomorrow's defence of her women's Longest Day crown may be her last tilt at the event.

A win for Maier in the iconic South Island multisport race would draw her level with Kathy Lynch's record of five women's crowns.

She initially wasn't planning to race this year until she had a miscarriage and then she decided to get back to what she loved.

The Longest Day starts at 6am.

The latest Commonwealth Games hypothesis is that Australia could co-host the 2026 edition with other countries as the scramble continues to save the multi-sports event.

Organisers remain steadfast in wanting to keep the movement going, despite the Victorian government pulling out as the original hosts.

They've cited the women's football World Cup last year across Australia and New Zealand as an example.
