Employees are being reminded to know their rights and responsibilities this Easter

Employees are being reminded to know their rights and responsibilities this Easter

Under current laws, stores can't open on Good Friday or Easter Sunday.

Garden centres are allowed to open on Sundays, and there are also some exceptions in tourism areas like Taupo and Queenstown.

MBIE Head of Compliance and Enforcement, Simon Humphries, says employers and employees have responsibilities and processes for working hours on these days.

He says all employees have the right to refuse work on Easter Sunday without needing to provide a reason.
