The News Publishers' Association says cancelling rural Saturday deliveries - is another blow to media

NZ Post says although weekday deliveries will continue - rural weekend deliveries of subscription newspapers and parcels will end late June, because it costs more than it earns.

The Association's Andrew Holden says up to a quarter of six-day subscribers in some regional markets get papers via NZ Post.

He says publishers may have to switch to delivering two editions on Monday -- and this makes it more likely subscribers will cancel.

Holden says it's likely this will put some smaller regional papers out of print altogether, to go online only.
