The quakes do not typically last longer than 10 minutes - so aren't categorised as volcanic tremors - which are different.
Last month, GeoNet recorded up to eight shallow earthquakes a day, which has now dropped to between zero and six on average.
The volcanic alert level remains at one, with a sudden eruption deemed very unlikely.
