Troubling findings that almost half of youth offenders simply walk out

Documents accidentally released by Oranga Tamariki show 40 percent of young people held in remand homes, have left.

The figures are higher in Auckland, at fifty percent.

Brendon Crompton who leads youth support service Blue Light says these young people come from from complex backgrounds, and often don't accept the help offered.

He says the youths know they can simply walk out the front door without being stopped.
