| | | PC World - 3:45AM (PC World)If you work with computers, you need a good driver kit. Hell, if you just live in the modern world and occasionally have stuff that breaks, you still need a good driver kit. And the best one I’ve used is iFixit’s Pro Tech Toolkit. Normally $75 and worth every penny, Amazon is selling the kit for just $59.96 today.
I love this thing, and I’ve got it attached to my desk for easy access. The meat of the kit is the iFixit all-metal, magnetic driver, which comes in a box with 64 of the most common bits necessary for repairing PCs, electronics, and pretty much anything smaller than a car. We’re talking eleven different Phillips and flathead bits, another dozen Torx bits, another dozen for hex screws and bolts, and exotic square, gamebit, and tri-point bits for weird proprietary stuff like Nintendo controllers and consoles.
The magnetic top is great for organizing screws while you’re working. On top of all that, you get a bit extender tool for those hard-to-reach spots and a cloth roll that holds bigger tools, including precision tweezers, pry tools, a suction cup, and even an anti-static wrist strap. It’s everything you’ll need to get a smartphone open and replace the screen. Except, well, a replacement screen.
It’s a compact package full of high-quality gear, and barely a week goes by when I haven’t reached for it for some kind of repair or tinkering. Go grab one for yourself, and maybe an extra for dad (Father’s Day is a month away).

| | | PC World - 3:05AM (PC World)Microsoft has released a new version of its free Windows tuning tool, dubbed PC Manager.
get windows 11 pro for cheap
Windows 11 Pro
Version 3.9.3.0’s main new feature is the improved “Files Cleanup” feature, as the US IT news portal Windowslatest reports. This is designed to give you more free space on your Windows computer quickly and easily. The new “Files Cleanup” cleans up downloaded files, searches for particularly large files, and removes duplicate files.
Microsoft’s PC Manager tool also brings Dark Mode to the app. There are also a number of detailed improvements to the interface as well as a revised desktop toolbar, which now integrates the Bing search.

With PC Manager, you can optimize the memory and storage space on computers with Windows 11 and Windows 10. Windows should also work faster by removing temporary files that are no longer needed and clearing the Windows update cache.
When cleaning up your computer, you can specify in PC Manager whether the tool should focus its cleaning and tidying work on downloaded files, large files, or duplicate files. For downloaded files, the software cleans up downloads from Edge, Chrome, and other applications that deposit files in the Downloads folder. If you let PC Manager search for large files, the tool will show you these. You can then decide whether you actually still need the file in question or whether you want to free up the storage space.

As already mentioned, the third option is to search for multiple files that are located in different places on your computer and therefore take up unnecessary storage space.
Microsoft’s PC Manager serves as an alternative to the iconic Ccleaner optimization app.
You can find the PC Manager download in the Microsoft Store. At least Windows 10 version 19042.0 or higher, or Windows 11, is required, with both x86 and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chips supported.

| | | PC World - 3:05AM (PC World)AI isn’t just a buzzword trying to drive PC sales to consumers. It’s also becoming a huge and very lucrative business — just ask Nvidia, which has more than doubled its stock price in the last year off of selling GPUs to data centers powering the backend of generative artificial intelligence apps. And chip competitor Arm, and its business daddy SoftBank, wants a piece of that pie.
Nikkei Asia reports that Arm is currently setting up an AI division and seeking partners for mass chip production, with a prototype AI chip planned for early 2025 and full-scale manufacturing penciled in for the fall of that year. It’s all part of SoftBank’s 10-trillion-yen ($64 billion USD) investment in the AI space, combined with plans to build data centers around the world and seek out new mergers and acquisitions. Notably, Nvidia failed to buy Arm from SoftBank in 2022 after the US Federal Trade Commission threatened to block the deal.
Arm-based chips are usually seen in smartphones and other mobile devices, but more recently they’ve been on the rise in Mac laptops and a big push for Windows machines. Arm’s architecture is also gaining steam in servers, where they’re generally less powerful but far more efficient than the x86 and x64 designs data centers usually rely on, still evolving from chip designs as far back as the 1980s.
Arm CPU designs are gaining performance ground quickly, with Qualcomm claiming its upcoming Snapdragon X Elite chips could even snatch some performance crowns from Intel. That’s yet to be proven, of course — we’ll have to wait and see how the next generation of Arm designs stack up against more conventional chips for consumers and industry. (Arm’s CEO also recently teased that he expects more companies to make Arm-based PC chips in the next few years — possibly Arm itself, or maybe Nvidia?)
Since AI applications require both number-crunching power and huge amounts of electricity, a compelling offering from Arm could set off an even bigger AI arms race, if you’ll pardon the pun. The company will have a lot of ground to make up versus Nvidia and others in 2025, but the potential for profit is simply too great to ignore for SoftBank.
