Thousands of North Islanders are waking up without power following a night of heavy rain

A thousand homes in Taranaki, 550 in Rotorua and 700 around Hawke's Bay's Pongaroa area are waking up without power.

There are also outages in Tauranga, Tokoroa, Palmerston North and Napier.

An unsecured trampoline has blown into lines in the East Cape, and parts of Tologa Bay will be without power for most of the day.

Hawke's Bay Civil Defence is reporting a few slips, but river levels haven't risen to alert levels.
