Hundreds of homes are without power across the North Island following a night of heavy rain

Hundreds of homes are without power across the North Island following a night of heavy rain

A thousand homes in Taranaki, 550 in Rotorua and 700 around Hawke's Bay's Pongaroa area are waking up without power.

Outages are also affecting hundreds of homes in Tauranga, Tokoroa, Palmerston North and Napier.

An unsecured trampoline has blown into lines and cut power to homes in the East Cape township of Te Araroa.

Dozens of homes in Tologa Bay have been cut off and will remain without power for much of today.
