Air Chathams begin flights from Paraparaumu to Auckland this morning.
There'll be three a day during the week, with a reduced service at weekends.
The community rallied for a new service when Air New Zealand pulled out earlier this year.
Otaki MP Nathan Guy is impressed with how the community's got in behind the new airline.
He suggests if things go well, flights to Christchurch could be added at a later date.
