Drivers across most of the South Island are being warned to take care

Drivers across most of the South Island are being warned to take care

NZTA says people need to be cautious driving in Nelson, Marlborough, Canterbury, the West Coast and Otago due to surface flooding and strong winds.

State Highway 73 is closed from Otira to Kumara Junction, after Goat Creek Bridge washed out.

State Highway Six from Hokitika to Fox Glacier is closed due to surface flooding, slips and wash outs - with road crews working to get it open.

MetService is forecasting up to 12-centimetres of snow this morning on the mountain road passes.
