Local man Joseph was last seen was due at Lake Chalice on Wednesday.

He hadn't been seen since October 21.

    Family raised an alarm yesterday.

An eagle-eyed helicopter spotter saw Joseph, six kilometres from his intended exit route, in the Motueka River area.

Police are advising people to be prepared when hiking, and tell someone where you are going.
