Calls for urgent action -- after yet another shooting in Northland
Calls for urgent action -- after yet another shooting in Northland
2 December 2020
A man, wanted for firearm and drug crimes, shot and wounded a police dog near Dargaville yesterday.
It's the fourth incident in only a few months where Northland police staff have faced gunfire.
The region's District Commander says about 10 firearms are confiscated by police every month.
Police Association President Chris Cahill says the Government needs to bring in a gun register.
He says that would give a clearer picture of what firearms are in New Zealand, who has them and where they're stored.
