Taranaki Base Hospital's Emergency Department has been identified as a Covid-19 exposure event

Taranaki Base Hospital's Emergency Department has been identified as a Covid-19 exposure event

Anyone at the department between 6.30pm and midnight on New Year's Day is considered a casual contact.

No staff have been stood down and the DHB's working with people who may be affected.

New Zealand has 17 new Covid-19 cases today -- five in Auckland, three in Waikato and nine in Bay of Plenty.

The Bay of Plenty cases are all in the Tauranga area and linked to previously reported cases, while Waikato has two cases in Te Kuiti and one in Hamilton.

There are also two cases in Taranaki which will be counted in tomorrow's numbers.

Anyone in New Zealand with symptoms - no matter how mild - are being urged to get tested, even if vaccinated and stay at home until you return a negative test result.
