A resurgence of kennel cough in Dunedin

A resurgence of kennel cough in Dunedin

VetChat, a leading telehealth service for pets operating in New Zealand, has noted a high incidence of canine cough in the region.

It's usually a loud hacking cough, and almost sounds like something is caught in their throat - it can last one to three weeks.

CEO Dr Claire Jenkins says they've seen an increase in reported cases, and wants dog-carers across New Zealand to be vigilant about the disease.

She says if your dog presents with a cough, please keep them away from other dogs and call a Vet for advice.

Depending on the case, treatment often involves anti-inflammatories and sometimes antibiotics.
