Not-for-profit organisation Orange Sky arrived in Christchurch in May to provide free laundry and shower services to the homeless.
It's urging people to check on the elderly.
A woman in her 70s was found dead in her car in Auckland's Remuera last week.
Orange Sky, operations manager Eddie Uini says people would be shocked to see the number of elderly sleeping in their vehicles or doing it tough on Christchurch's streets.
He says a lot of the time it comes from a family break-down, but there's also shame around homelessness despite many of them having worked their whole life.
