Police have recovered a body inside a car, in Silver Stream on the outskirts of Dunedin last night.
They and two others had been trying to cross a ford in the swollen stream about 9pm, when it was swept away.
The other two escaped.
Elsewhere, Tekapo remains cut off -- and flooding and road closures are continuing to affect the Selwyn District, the South Island passes, the West Coast, Manawatu and Coromandel Peninsula.
A man has been rescued from rising floodwaters in Canterbury, and one person has died and another has serious injuries after a crash near Napier.
