Two climbers have been rescued after surviving an avalanche near Queenstown
28 July 2022
The climbers made a call for help on Double Cone in the Remarkables Range on Tuesday.
High winds and blowing snow prevented two attempts to get an Alpine Rescue Team down by helicopter.
The climbers were told to dig a snow cave and shelter overnight - both were experienced in the mountains and well-equipped.
The helicopter finally dropped a rescue team 300 metres below the climbers, and took them all back to Queenstown yesterday.
