Rotorua Lakes Council is pursuing costs for withdrawn legal action over a controversial proposed law change
28 July 2022
The bill would change the region's electoral rules - to give those on the Maori and general rolls equal influence in electing councillors.
Robert Lee filed a Judicial Review in April, claiming a lack of consultation and unjustifiable limitations on human rights and freedoms.
He's now withdrawn the action... leaving the council needing to pay more than 100-thousand dollars for responding to the Judicial Review.
The Council has asked its lawyers to reject Lee's request for costs to remain where they lie.
