The clean up of Hawke's Bay is being dampened by more rain

The clean up of Hawke's Bay is being dampened by more rain

Authorities warn heavy rainfall overnight has isolated more rural communities in the central region.

Silt stuck in storm drains is causing surface flooding - and more moisture is causing slips to move.

The ravaged Napier-Taupo Road's suffered more damage from a slip in the Glengarry Road area.

Hastings' Mayor says about a thousand people were out trying to clear up local roads again today.

But, Sandra Hazlehurst says they can't do it all alone.

She says they need the army to help move some of the silt which has built up in communities they haven't reached yet.

Hundreds of generators and Starlink internet kits have been brought into isolated areas by chopper.

But Civil Defence says the ongoing rain is making welfare work difficult.

A free 0800 number has been set up for residents today - to help coordinate welfare support.
