A first night completely open for State Highway Five between Napier and Taupo, since being badly damaged by Cyclone Gabrielle

The road was opened between 7am and 7pm last week.

But Waka Kotahi warns while the road is safe to drive, there are still several damaged sites, and motorists should drive at lower speeds, and expect subsequent delays.

A one hour closure is planned near Te Haroto today from 11am to midday, to allow four and a half thousand sheep to be moved along the road.
