Corrections has begun a full review of its monitoring of the latest person on electronically monitored bail accused of a major violent crime

A 28-year-old man has been arrested over the fatal shooting of 32-year-old Charles Pongi at Taurima Reserve in Auckland's Point England on Saturday afternoon.

Department of Corrections Regional Manager Sean Mason says it's up to a judge to decide to grant bail, and it's up to Police to decide how to respond when a person breaches bail.

But he says public safety is the department's top priority, and it's reviewing its monitoring of the man.

Police are also continuing their investigations into the other recent fatal shootings in central Auckland and Palmerston North.
