A multi-million dollar funding boost to protect North Island regions against flood risks

A multi-million dollar funding boost to protect North Island regions against flood risks

The government's providing 11.2 million dollars to local councils, as part of its Budget 2023 cyclone recovery package.

It'll be used to upgrade forecasting, warning systems, and flood prevention infrastructure.

The funding's split between the Wairarapa, Waikato, Thames-Coromandel, and Manawatu-Whanganui regions.

Cyclone Gabrielle happened eight months ago - killing 11 people, damaging homes, and leaving communities devastated.
