Kaitaia Police are asking for help after an assault outside the town's PAK'nSave a week ago

Police say two men, including one wearing a gang patch, began arguing in the supermarket's aisles, before it was split up by workers.

They allege an associate of the patched man later arrived and approached two members of the public, knocking one of them unconscious.

Detective Sergeant Richards says thanks to brave intervention from the supermarket team and members of the public, the assault was brought to a stop.

The victim was taken to hospital - while Police are still looking for the offender.
