A step closer to a world title fight for New Zealand boxer Jerome Pampellone

A step closer to a world title fight for New Zealand boxer Jerome Pampellone

The 27-year-old has jumped up two spots to fifth in the IBF's latest light heavyweight rankings.

It comes after taking his record to 18-and-0 with a first round stoppage of durable Mexican veteran Rogelio Medina in Whangarei at the start of the month.

Meanwhile, Pampellone's Peach Boxing team-mate Mea Motu has regained the number one ranking with the IBF in her division.

The undefeated IBO super bantamweight world champion lost the spot to Brit Ramla Ali last month - but has regained it after her recent one-sided win over India's Chandni Mehra .
