More fire season changes - this time for Mid-South Canterbury

The Mackenzie Basin, which moved into a restricted season last week -- has now moved into a prohibited season.

This means a ban on open-air fires in the area, and there's also a temporary fireworks ban in place until the end of March.

Fire and Emergency has also declared a restricted fire season in the Hakataramea Valley, Rangitata, Ashburton and Rakaia Gorge zones.

People wanting to light an open-air fire will need a permit.
