    One person has died after a single vehicle crash near Ashburton overnight


    Emergency services were called just before 1am, to Methven Highway in Allenton.

    The vehicle's only occupant died at the scene.

    And a person's been airlifted to hospital in critical condition following a serious crash near Whangarei.

    Emergency services were called to the crash between a truck and two cars on State Highway 1 in Oakleigh, after midnight.

    Both highways are now open, and investigations are continuing.
