    The official road toll for the Christmas holiday period stands at five ... it's due to end on January 3


    The latest to die was a person in a single vehicle crash near Ashburton early this morning.

    As at 18 December 2023, 319 people have lost their lives on New Zealand's roads.

    The total summer road toll last year was 21.
