An Air New Zealand pilot has aborted take off in Timaru this morning, concerned about birds on the flight path

An airline spokesperson says flight NZ 8190 was due to fly to Wellington just before 7am.

But he says the aircraft stopped on the runway and is remaining there during standard procedures - before being moved back to the terminal.

The District Council's confirmed Richard Pearse Airport is closed until further notice.
