An Ashburton woman who fatally stabbed her partner in the head, and told a jury it was self-inflicted -- has been jailed for more than four years

Kia-ara Richardson was found not guilty of murdering her partner, 23 year old Peter Tawhiwhiorangi Hemi, but guilty of his manslaughter.
Hemi died at his McDonald Street home in November 2019.
Crown Prosecutor Andrew McRae told the High Court at Christchurch, Richardson stabbed Hemi in the back of the head during an argument, inflicting the 12cm wound.
No minimum term has been set.
