Gugu Mbatha-Raw will never talk publicly about her personal life

The 41-year-old actress believes she needs to maintain a sense of mystery in order to continue her acting career so she has vowed to keep her private life out of the spotlight indefinitely

She told the Guardian newspaper: "It's a way to have longevity as an artist ... If people have too many ideas about your world, it dilutes the work.

"There's this [actress] Michaela Coel quote from a few years ago, about how it's OK to disappear.

"As an artist you need to refill the well, have something to say."

Gugu also insist she's happy not to have been sucked into using social media to advance her career, adding: "I'm thankful to have a perspective that isn't just pushing yourself out there, simply for the sake of being present."

Despite keeping her private life quiet, Gugu has previously opened up about her former job working as a tour guide on the London Eye.

During an appearance on 'The Heart Evening Show', she said: I used to work on the London Eye as a tour guide.

"When I was at drama school, I used to be one of the guides that would tell you all about the sites."

Gugu also used to share her knowledge on the city's river boat tours - and had a "really special" moment on her first day of shooting 'Lift' in London because the vessel she used to work on passed them.

She explained: "You know what was crazy, actually, is we did the [London] Eye and then we did the river cruise, as well as tour guides.

"And on our first day of filming, me and Kevin [Hart], we're on the South Bank, we had a scene on the river looking out to the Thames. And you know it's first day nerves. We're in London, it's the beginning of the movie.

"And I see the boat that I used to work on, just go by and I was like 'Kevin you'll never believe this'. Like I used to be the tour guide on that boat.

"So it was kind of like a full circle moment. It was really special."
