Met Gala 2025 key moments, from Diana Ross to A$AP Rocky confirming Rihanna's pregnancy

Diana Ross hasn't attended a Met Gala since 2003, but made sure no-one would forget she was there this year. Here are some of the key moments and styles from the 2025 high-fashion fundraising event.

Former lead singer of the Supremes and disco queen Diana Ross put the red carpet on pause when she made a stunning return to the Met Gala.

Wearing a 5.5-metre-long feathered train containing the names of her children and grandchildren, Ross was at the annual haute couture fundraising event for the first time since 2003.

Turning heads in her show-stopping gown, Ross was asked by live stream co-host La La Anthony whether she had been planning to shut down the red carpet.

"It was not the plan," she replied, saying her son convinced her to go.

    "Everything was very last-moment."

Rihanna and A$AP Rocky expecting third baby

Barbadian pop star and businesswoman Rihanna arrived late, but she was still the talk of the town prior to her entrance.

Rihanna, who is no stranger to well-timed pregnancy announcements, was pictured outside her hotel sporting a baby bump.

It will be her third child with rapper A$AP Rocky, who confirmed the pregnancy to news outlets.

Then in she came, sending the red carpet into a frenzy.

Rihanna and A$AP Rocky have two sons: RZA, born in May 2022 and Riot, born in August 2023.

    The 2025 Met Gala theme

A$AP Rocky is a co-chair along with Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, Pharrell Williams and honorary chair LeBron James.

This year's theme is Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.

The theme is a celebration of Black men's fashion and was inspired by guest Curator Monica L Miller's book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity.

"What I'm wearing is a tribute to Virgil [Abloh]," said chair Anna Wintour.

Abloh, who was Louis Vuitton's star designer, died of cancer in 2021.

Zendaya sends the internet into overdrive

With fans trying to figure out the meaning behind her look, Euphoria actor Zendaya had internet sleuths guessing whether her headgear was a nod to a viral moment at a 2014 Teen Vogue party where she wore an oversized hat and became a meme.

Others pointed out her pant suit was reminiscent of Diana Ross in the 1975 film Mahogany, in which Ross played an aspiring fashion designer, and wondered whether a remake was in the works.

Australian stars on the red carpet

Nicole Kidman showed off a short new hairstyle as she represented Australians along with Sarah Snook, Miranda Kerr, Adut Akech, Baz Luhrmann and Blackpink's Rosé.

"We've got new music coming out," Rosé told Anthony when asked about Blackpink's upcoming tour.
