Hotels in our biggest cities are struggling, while others are bouncing back

Hotels in our biggest cities are struggling, while others are bouncing back

A report by commercial real estate company JLL shows strong demand for destinations like Queenstown, but occupancy's down for Auckland and Wellington.

It shows international guests are driving tourism spends to record levels - at more than 44-billion-dollars for the March 2024 year.

Hotel Council Strategic Director James Doolan says it's been a slow recovery post-covid.

He says operating conditions are still pretty tough, meaning more hotels aren't likely to open, especially high-end ones.
