Signs of a slow recovery in construction

Stats NZ data shows building consents for new homes were up 1.3 percent annually to August - on the year before.

Consents are picking up in monthly and annual terms, but still down a third since the peak in mid-2022.

Fewer retirement village units are being consented.

But consents for apartments are rising sharply in places like Auckland and Queenstown.
