The landlord of a central Auckland boarding house has not made a 240-thousand-dollar payment - over safety risks

The landlord of a central Auckland boarding house has not made a 240-thousand-dollar payment - over safety risks

MBIE investigated Beach Road Hotel Limited, operating as The Station Hotel, during its probe into boarding houses after Wellington's Loafers Lodge fire, in 2023.

It found the building didn't have working extractor fans or fixed heaters.

Its fire escape involved unstable metal platforms, with some doors bolted shut.

The landlord still owes MBIE exemplary damages - due by October 8.
