Commuters on the Auckland City Rail Link will be able to access 5G phone connection from underground

Commuters on the Auckland City Rail Link will be able to access 5G phone connection from underground

Telcos including One NZ, Spark, and 2degrees have begun installing high-speed mobile connectivity infrastructure in the tunnels and stations.

Auckland Transport Chief Executive Dean Kimpton says not only will this allow passengers to stay in touch and stream, but it will also provide crucial connectivity for real-time train tracking, and emergency communications.

Installation work includes more than 350 radio transmitters connected by 74 kilometres of cabling.
