A fire at the old Fitzherbert Tavern in central Palmerston North has been deemed suspicious

A fire at the old Fitzherbert Tavern in central Palmerston North has been deemed suspicious

Emergency services were called to the corner of Ferguson Street and Fitzherbert Avenue at 5.30pm yesterday.

Police say a scene examination's taking place, and they want to hear from anyone who saw someone suspicious at the site before the blaze.

Fire and Emergency says while asbestos is suspected, they're waiting for test results to confirm.
