A 15-year-old who allegedly threatened a woman with a machete and attempted to steal her car in an Auckland carpark's been taken into custody

Police were called to a supermarket in Massey about 8.30 on Sunday night.

The victim was opening her driver's door when she was approached by a stranger who tried to get into her car.

The woman closed the door and tried to run away but fell.

The offender then threatened her with a machete while trying to get her car keys, but fled when the attempt failed.
