Auckland's Viaduct Harbour will be home to a new open-air saltwater pool this summer

The pool will be 33-meters long and be set around the Karanga Plaza tidal steps.

Auckland Council says construction will cost about half-a-million-dollars and start next month.

Its treating the project as a pilot to test the concept of a permanent pool at the location.

Opening is scheduled for the end of December - and it will be free to use during daylight hours.
