A North Canterbury driver's been charged with causing the death of his two passengers, while under the influence of drugs

A 20-year-old man and 17-year-old woman died on Clarkville's Butchers Road, when the car hit a concrete power pole with such force, it split in two.

    The driver received minor injuries.

He's been granted interim name suppression and remanded on bail, to reappear at the end of the month.
