A Wellington "mega-landlord" is facing serious charges - including strangulation, and making an intimate visual recording

Matthew Ryan owns more than 200 properties and appeared in the Wellington District Court this afternoon.

Other charges include unlawful firearm possession, threatening to kill or cause grievous bodily harm, and distributing an intimate recording.

The case will next be called in September - with a reserve trial date set for March.

Ryan's been widely quoted in the past on landlord and property investor rights.
