Water Safety New Zealand says a tragic drowning at Auckland's Musick Point is a reminder no one is invincible

Water Safety New Zealand says a tragic drowning at Auckland's Musick Point is a reminder no one is invincible

Coroner Rachael Schmidt-McCleave's found 51-year-old Tevita Moeakiola's death in the Hauraki Gulf in June 2022 was preventable.

He wasn't wearing a life jacket, and had no waterproof means of communication when his boat capsized during a fishing trip.

Spokesperson Rob Hewitt says too many people think this won't happen to them.

He says people need to humble themselves to the elements and the environment.
